As I mentioned in my first article, there’s a special place in my heart for Rome, and this time I’m going to share with you things that I love to do when I’m there! However, if you’re visiting Rome soon you should know that it’s not possible to see all the places around Rome in a few days or even a few months. Most people won’t even attempt to see everything in one trip. To ensure they’ll return to Rome, they’ll toss a coin into the Fountain of Trevi. Legend has it that those who do will return to Rome again, look at me!
Here are the top 10 things:
1. A breakfast at Caffè Greco in via dei Condotti, in addition to the excellent coffee and desserts, is a very interesting place to admire the Italian lifestyle and their impeccable style. Entering Caffè Greco makes you relive the sweet life.
2. A lunch at Canova Tadolini's via del Babbuino. It was created from the atelier of the sculptor Canova, wherever there are sculptures and plaster sketches, the tables wind among monumental works. It is also a place frequented by the Romans and it is easy to find Roman politicians and actors as a neighbor. Truly an experience!
3. A visit to Palazzo Doria Panphilj, and walking along the long corridors make you understand the power of the ancient Roman families. Only by visiting this palace full of works of art and wonderful decorations you can understand the Baroque era. It includes paintings by master artists such as Caravag, and Caracci. The extravagant Gallery of the Mirrors is similar to the one at Versailles. By the way, it’s a perfect place to take pictures for Instagram!
4. Do you want one of Caravaggio’s best works to yourself? Go to Palazzo Barberini early in the morning. It’s one of Rome’s best secrets, It includes artwork by Caravaggio, Raphael, Bernini, and many more. And of course, you should see the main reception room of the Palazzo Barberini, the double-height grand Salon is a showstopper.
5. Another interesting place to visit is the Hendrik Christian Andersen Museum, where the artist lived and worked there. The museum's collection includes over two hundred sculptures, two hundred paintings, and three hundred graphic works. It’s a hidden gem!
6. A walk around Villa Borghese, it’s the perfect place to get a bit of breathing room in Rome. You can easily spend an entire day in Rome’s green lung. Also, you can visit the Pincio terrace (Terrazza del Pincio), one of Rome's finest panoramas, descend the ramps and stairs to Piazza del Popolo and Porta del Popolo.
7. A must visit one of my favorite churches, Sant 'Ignazio of Loyola in Campo Marzio, and enjoy the extraordinary ceiling through a mirror placed on the floor.
8. An aperitif or dinner at the Terrazza dì Zuma (Palazzo Fendi), the view is spectacular over the Roman roofs and domes.
9. Late-night advice to go to the Trevi Fountain and throw a coin expressing a wish. Only at night when there are not a lot of people, you can admire and listen to the water fountain sound. It is truly an experience, it’s my go-to place every time I'm in Rome.
10. How can you forget to have a GELATO? Try out the Gelateria Giolitti, near the Pantheon! My favorite flavor? Pistachio of course.
Hence, these are the reasons to love Rome more, the city that has thousands of incredible gems, secret finds, and unique places. Most of these places are really worth your time, and don’t forget to share with me or tag me if you visit them!
With love,
J
